Master of Science in Marine and Environmental Science,
May 2025

Abigail Gretta completed her Master of Science in Marine and Environmental Science at the University of the Virgin Islands in May 2025, where she focused on coral-algal interactions. Following graduation, she secured a long-term Securing STEM Island Pathways fellowship under the mentorship of her thesis advisor, Dr. Tyler Smith.

As a member of the Smith Lab, Abigail will contribute to data collection and analysis for the U.S. Territorial Coral Reef Monitoring Program and the Endangered Coral Mapping Project. In addition, she will work toward two publications this year: her thesis research on the encrusting red alga Ramicrusta textilis and a recent study conducted in Mo’orea, French Polynesia, on the brown alga Turbinaria ornata.

Abigail plans to use this fellowship year to expand her professional network and prepare for Ph.D. programs.
